Greetings and welcome to the Diplomatic Council. The universe is a prism of life. Every intelligent species in the galaxy has much in common with its neighbors. Unfortunately, it is the differences that define the relationships between those neighbors. Conflict is often the result of interactions. That is why the Diplomatic Council was formed.

The goal of the Council is to prevent the differences between our peoples from developing into warfare. The hope is that discussion can find ways to find solutions to disagreements before weapons are drawn.

Diplomats are often considered less friendly and less interesting than the other aspects of government, but as one will quickly see as it observes the Council and its members, that is not the case. Like those in the military, there are heroes, villains, traitors, and those overcome by their responsibilities. We represent our governments and our cultures. We serve our peoples and the movement for peace in the galaxy.

Ancient humans started the tradition of approaching with an open hand and grasping that of the person they are meeting. It was supposed to be a sign that they were not holding a weapon, and, thus, someone who could be trusted. It is with such a gesture that I extend the hand of friendship and welcome you to the Council Chambers.
